What do governors do exactly ?

This is another question we get asked routinely in school and the have lots of different functions. Many of you will have seen the recent BBC article on how important it is to have governors who understand the school’s aims and vision and at Bevington we have worked hard to make sure they do. They also check the school’s processes and procedures, including importantly, looking over the school’s proposed budget spend every year to ensure your children get value for money. They will be doing this on Friday this week in preparation for the school submitting their budget plan to the Local Authority by the end of May. In a world of rapidly diminishing school budgets their scrutiny is much appreciated. Later in the term they will be looking at data and how well the school is doing at raising standards. Heady stuff as you can imagine!
