Equality Statement and Objectives
Equality Statement and Objectives:
At Bevington Primary School, we are proud to be a welcoming and inclusive community school in the heart of North Kensington. We celebrate the rich diversity of our pupils and families and are committed to ensuring that every child thrives academically, socially and emotionally. Our school values – Aspiration, Respect and Perseverance – underpin all that we do, shaping an environment where difference is recognised, respected and celebrated.
We are determined to maintain high expectations for every child, regardless of background or need, and we work hard to ensure that all pupils feel represented, supported and safe. Staff and governors work closely together to actively challenge discrimination and break down barriers to participation, fostering a sense of belonging across the whole school.
Our Commitment to Equality
In line with the Equality Act 2010, we are committed to:
- Eliminating discrimination and other conduct prohibited by the Act
- Advancing equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
- Fostering good relations across all characteristics – between those who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
We apply these principles across all aspects of school life – from curriculum design and behaviour policy to community engagement and school leadership. Our policies are carefully considered and regularly reviewed to ensure they reflect our legal duties and the needs of our pupils.
Promoting Equality through Curriculum and Culture
Through our curriculum, assemblies, and wider personal development programme, we teach children about the importance of equity, tolerance, and inclusion. We build awareness of protected characteristics and encourage pupils to celebrate difference, challenge stereotypes and understand the experiences of others. Our PSHE and RE lessons are central to this, alongside key events such as Black History Month, International Women’s Day and Pride Month.
We also embed inclusive approaches into the curriculum itself, ensuring that topics and texts reflect a range of voices, cultures and lived experiences. Staff receive regular training on unconscious bias and inclusive teaching strategies, and we review curriculum content each term to ensure that no child feels excluded from what they learn.
Equality Objectives
To further strengthen our practice, we have set the following objectives:
- Supporting achievement for pupils with SEND and those eligible for Pupil Premium
We will monitor and analyse progress for these pupils closely, providing targeted interventions and consistent behaviour support. Our aim is to close attainment gaps, build self-regulation and improve outcomes across subjects – particularly in writing and maths. - Embedding inclusive practices across the curriculum
We will continue to promote and celebrate equality through every aspect of school life, ensuring that all pupils – including those with English as an Additional Language – see themselves reflected in the curriculum and feel valued in the classroom. - Strengthening belonging and wellbeing
We will develop further opportunities for pupil voice, leadership and recognition. We want all children, especially those who face additional challenges, to feel safe, supported and confident to play a full role in the life of the school.
We regularly evaluate the impact of our actions through pupil voice, assessment data, lesson observations, and feedback from families. This ensures our objectives are meaningful, relevant, and responsive to the needs of our school community.
